Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke, serving as acting governor, signed Act 201 into law at the state library in downtown Honolulu to ensure high-speed internet access reaches underserved communities.
The new law establishes a state broadband office and expands the community digital navigator program.
The measure aims to help people like Beth Rasmussen, 78, who says responding to email threads and using attachments used to be frustrating, and standard computer classes didn’t help.
“Every class that I would go to would be so basic or so advanced that I didn’t fit into it,” said Rasmussen.
