Hawaii has landed a significant investment to bolster high-speed internet across the state.
Google has announced a $1 billion project for the construction of three undersea cables, a development that’s expected to make the state a key digital hub in the Pacific.
“These are not just simply upgrades to old systems,” said Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke. “They are brand new undersea cables and essential to helping Hawaii connect to the entire world.”
Luke has long been a champion for Hawaii’s high-speed internet expansion and two of three of Hawaii’s current cables are nearing the end of their operational lifespan.
